After completing his premedical studies at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, receiving a Bachelor of Kinesiology and Physical Education, Dr. Michael Reid graduated from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM) in Toronto. Since that time, he and his wife, Dr. Som Thammasouk, formed HealthSource Integrative Medical Centre, which provides naturopathic medical and adjunctive integrative cancer care. Dr. Reid also spent time developing an integrative care model working alongside a medical doctor, Dr. Francesco Anello. They started working together in 2008 and it was unusual at that time to see NDs and MDs working together. Dr. Reid and Dr. Anello treated many patients together over a 10 year period and continue to collaborate to this day.
Dr. Reid is first and foremost a clinician. He works with many different conditions including difficult and complex cases. He has the clinical experience to know what works yet also knows his limitations and will make the appropriate recommendations accordingly.
Dr. Reid’s continued study and practice takes a focus on Adjunctive Integrative Cancer care. Dr. Reid has advanced his education in Naturopathic Cancer Care based on the standard for the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology (the certification branch of the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians). Demonstrating his extra training, knowledge and experience in supportive cancer care he has become a Fellow of the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology (FABNO). He has over a decade of experience with a clinical focus on integrative cancer care where he works with patients to offer supportive therapies that are targeted at reducing side effects, optimizing conventional care, and prevention of recurrence.
Being recognized as a centre with a special interest in cancer care, HealthSource was selected to be part of the Canadian and U.S. Integrative Oncology Study (CUSIOS). Dr. Reid also pursued and brought to Waterloo Region Loco-Regional Hyperthermia as an adjunctive cancer treatment.
Dr. Reid lectures on integrative oncology and has been regularly invited to speak to professionals and the public. Some of the groups he has spoken to are the Canadian Lymphoma Society, the School of Pharmacy in Kitchener, Guelph University and Wilfrid Laurier University.
Dr. Reid also has clinical interest with pain, chronic fatigue, digestive health, hormonal imbalances and bio-identical hormones (thyroid, adrenal, menopause), and mood disorders (anxiety and depression). In addition to the physical, Dr. Reid recognizes the importance of mental, emotional, and spiritual levels of health. He focuses on achieving balance in all aspects for each individual person through treatment with a wide range of therapeutic techniques.
